Dog Licensing

The Dog Act 1976 requires that all dogs be registered with their local Authority if it is more than 3 months old. Licenses are due for renewal on 1 November each year, expiring on 31 October the following year. Registrations are available for a period of 1 or 3 years and lifetime registration.

Tags: Registration Tags will be issued at time of registration. 

If a tag is lost please contact the Shire for a replacement tag.
Replacement tags cost $2.70

Please Note:

It is compulsory for all dogs to be microchipped, that are 3 months or older. Owners will be required to bring proof of microchipping at the time of registering their dog.

Registration of dogs is the owners responsibility. Unregistered dog owners can attract fines up $1000.

The Dog Act 1976 only permits the keeping of 2 dogs over the age of 3 months and their young (under 3 months) per premises. An application needs to be approved by the Kulin Shire Council to keep 3 or more dogs over 3 months of age at a single residence.

Under the Dog Act 1976 a dog shall not be in a public place (including footpaths, streets, town oval etc.) unless it is :

a) secured by a chain, cord, leash or harness and held by a person who is capable of controlling the dog.
b) securely tethered for a temporary purpose

Local Governments have the power to seize stray dogs. A fee is payable to the local government to release the dog/s.
