New Development for Kulin Bush Races

Media Release: 27 January, 2017

The Kulin Bush Races committee has voted to change the date of the 2017 Kulin Bush Races from the traditional first weekend in October to the second weekend, due to the ongoing clash with the AFL Grand Final the last few years.

The date for the 2017 Kulin Bush Races is now Saturday, October 7, with main events falling on this date but activities occurring throughout the weekend.

It will be the first time in 23 years that the Kulin Bush Races has deviated from the original first weekend in October date.

Bush Races President Graeme Robertson said, ’so much has happened over that time, and not only has the Kulin Bush Races gone from strength to strength, but so has our town. With friendly people, clean amenities and beautiful landscaping, Kulin is firmly on the map and a destination in its own right’.

‘We’ve come to realise that many racegoers have plans on the AFL Grand Final weekend so we wanted to be flexible. People can still come out and enjoy their day at the Bush Races the weekend after without having to choose or try to do both,’ said Graeme.

‘We also know that many other Wheatbelt events are held around this time to coincide with the Kulin Bush Races which we thoroughly support as this provides a wonderful whole of region experience’.

‘We feel that all these events add to the experience of attending the Kulin Bush Races and we highly encourage racegoers to stopover in other areas of the Wheatbelt during their visit.’

The Kulin Bush Races is a not-for-profit event which is coordinated, managed and run by a passionate group of volunteers. All money raised from the event supports important community initiatives.

Much more than a day at the races, the weekend is a smorgasbord of spectacular scenery, art, crafts, novelty events, children’s entertainment, live bands and delicious country style food.

It is a family orientated event, with activities and entertainment for all ages, run 100% by the community.
