Bushfire Brigade Update

Brigade Review

In 2016 the Shire of Kulin agreed to instigate a review of its brigades with the aim of creating a more serviceable system of fire control.  Following positive feedback at the AGM in April the matter was presented to Council who considered the information and agreed to the proposal.  Public consultation was sought up until 26 June 2017 with no submissions being received.

Effectively the Shire of Kulin Bushfire Brigades have reduced from 10 down to 4.

Kulin North (encompasses Kulin Town, Kulin West & Kulin East Brigades)

Kulin South (encompasses Jitarning, Dudinin & Walyurin Brigades)

Jilakin/Pingaring (combines Jilakin & Pingaring Brigades)

Holt Rock / Little Italy (combines Holt Rock & Little Italy Brigades).

DFES are currently finalising the amalgamation to come into effect for 2017/18 season.

Protective Clothing

Currently awaiting arrival of the order for Full Face Respirators & Filters. If you have placed an order, Nicole will advise you when it can be collected. Due to Council subsidising 50% of the cost of the above equipment, fire fighting jackets and trousers are unable to be supplied at no charge this year, however an order will still be placed for those requiring these items. Jackets are $125ea and trousers $80ea.

There are some larger size jackets and trousers in stock at the Shire office for any one existing brigade members that may require protective clothing and haven't received an order in the past.

Please email eso@kulin.wa.gov.au or call Nicole 9880 1204 to place an order. Orders will be taken up to Friday 10 November, 2017.

Please remember a duty of care exists for a Fire Control Officer to ensure that persons attending an incident has appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), the same responsibility rests with those attending so please ensure you wear the required clothing, otherwise insurance issues may arise.

Kulin Fire Control Officers are appointed at the Annual Meeting of the Bush Fire Brigades held in March.
